JOHN SOTOMAYOR
John Sotomayor is the president of Sotomayor Media
Creations LLC, an award-winning media company
with newspaper and magazine clients throughout
Florida. In 2007, he received the Greater Ocala
Advertising Federation ADDY Mosaic Award for
Cultural Diversity. Also in 2007, the Florida Magazine
Association awarded him Silver and Bronze Charlie for
Best Feature and Silver for Best Public Service
Coverage. In 2008, Sotomayor was named Forty
Under 40 by Ocala Magazine. In 2009, he earned the
Florida Press Club (FPC) Excellence in Journalism
award, First Place in Community News, for a dual-
written Spanish/English feature. In October 2010, he
duplicated his achievement with the FPC with a
consecutive First Place in Community News, as well as
second place and First Place in Minority News. Earlier
the same month, Sotomayor was awarded the
Mary Sue Rich Diversity Award bestowed by the City of Ocala in the business
category. Earlier, in January 2010, his business was named Minority Business of the
Year by the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) at the Stars
Over Ocala Business Awards. At the Chamber, he serves as Chair of the Hispanic
Business Council, Ambassador, board of directors member and board of regents
member of the Emerging Leaders of Ocala. Prior to his media career, he worked
as a litigation paralegal for ten years in top tier New York City law firms including
Clifford, Chance, Rogers & Wells; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; and Sullivan &
Cromwell. He has a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of
Rochester; and completed two years at Howard University School of Law in
Washington, DC.
